My name is Jeff O'Brien, and I am a business, real estate and estate planning attorney in
I created this website to provide a single point of access to the various writings, blog posts and podcasts that I've created in over ten years of practicing law. I hope that visitors to this site check back often to learn more about important legal issues, and I hope that I can provide the answers!
A lot of people who meet me -- including many of my clients -- tell me that I'm not your typical attorney; they tell me that I'm as much a business man as I am a lawyer, because I analyze transactions not only from the legal side in terms of risks and liabilities, but also from the practical side like a business person does. They say that I'm "The Business Man's lawyer." I take that title as a high compliment. Don't let the name fool you though; I'm also proud to represent many businesswomen as well!
I have a strong passion for networking, both in person and online via various social media sites. I've built my legal practice via networking and I leverage my many connections to help others in business. The Links page contains links to my various networking organizations, as well as several professional organizations in which I am active. The Events page contains information on upcoming presentations and networking events which I will be attending.
I also write a lot of articles on various topics of business, real estate and estate planning law. The Articles page contains links to these articles and I hope that you find these articles both interesting and informative. Additionally, the Presentations page contains additional written materials from the numerous seminars I've presented during my career. One of my niche practice areas is "brewery law", as my firm works with a number of craft breweries. There are a number of legal issues involved with launching a brewery as you can imagine, and the laws are constantly changing. The Beer page contains links to my various thoughts on the subject.
The centerpiece of this site, though, is my blog, The Business Man's Lawyer. Check back often for updates, as I try to provide a few nuggets of wisdom every few days. I have also written for a few other blogs and you can find links to those posts on the Blogs page.
I'm fortunate to have a few clients with their own radio shows, and if you talk all the time like I do eventually they ask you to be a part of them. You can hear me talk real estate law on the Real Estate Radio Hour and the Red Hot Real Estate Show pages. I used to be a part of a business show called The Advisors and you can listen to those clips as well on that show's page, or jump over to the Other Media page where you can access various other appearances and print coverage.
